All HCPSS employees, contractors and volunteers are mandated reporters. A mandated reporter is required to
report suspected child abuse or neglect that occurred in Maryland by calling 410-872-4203 to make an oral report immediately after the incident is observed and by submitting a written report online within 48 hours.
Reporters should:
• Not wait until the end of the day to make a report of suspected child maltreatment which may include physical abuse, neglect, sexual abuse or emotional abuse.
• Include details regarding the allegations and all available demographic information about those involved when making the oral and written report including:
- The current whereabouts of the student.
- Correct spelling of names.
- Race/ethnicity.
- Dates of births.
- Contact information including phone numbers and addresses.
- o Information about other children/adults in the child’s home.
• Call 911 if the child is in immediate danger.
