Forest Ridge News...

Greetings FRES Community,

Happy Ramadan to our families who are celebrating!  As participating students continue their fast during this holiday season, students who would prefer not to be in the cafeteria during lunch may sit in the conference room.  We understand that some students may need to limit physical activity and ask that you share that information with their teachers.

It has been a busy week but a great week. This week our fifth graders were able to participate in the Oyster Reef Project where they worked with individuals from The Coastal Conservation Association to build habitats for oysters in the Chesapeake Bay to grow and filter the waters that flow through our state. The students were excited and grateful to do their part! Our third graders participated in the Biowax project. Many staff members and parents assisted, not only in their research, but in their practice for performance day. It was incredible!

This week we also had an opportunity to celebrate a few of our staff members. Mrs. Robinson was recognized by the Bright Minds Foundation for her kindness in working and believing in our students. Mrs. DeOrio was recognized at the BoE meeting for her nomination of Teacher-of-the-Year; Dr. Varlack was recognized at the BoE meeting for her nomination of Principal-of-the-Year. We thank the parents who took the time and initiative to highlight our great leaders. It is our hope to work with our PTA to have more of our staff members recognized for the heart they put into what they do daily.

This week we also received many cards, words of appreciation, and tokens of appreciation from students and families. Our PTA, you provided staff with a wonderful luncheon in appreciation of staff members’ collective efforts. It was very nice. Thank you for believing in staff and their efforts. It made our week!

We wish you a pleasant weekend.

Field Day is Coming!
Hello FRES Parents!  Our Field Day is being held Thursday, May 16th during the entire school day (the rain date is Wednesday, June 5th).  If you have had a child here in the past, you know that Field Day is one of our students' favorite days that is full of exciting activities.  However, this event does not succeed without the support of parent volunteers!  Field Day has been broken into an AM and PM schedule, so you can choose to give half a day of your time, or the whole day to help!  More information on the day and the volunteer sign up list are in the link below:

Enrichment Fair
The Enrichment Fair is scheduled for May 23rd from 6:30-8:00. This evening gives us the opportunity to celebrate the excellence of ALL of our students at FRES. Please mark this date on your calendar. This exciting evening will provide you with the chance to see some of the great work that your child produced this year.

Watch DOGS
Our Watch DOGS dads this week were Mr. Brown, Mr. Oluwabuyi, Mr. Charland, and Mr. Schlesiger.  Thank you so much!
