From Mr. Conroy...

Greetings FRES Families,

Today marks the end of quarter three and the final day of school before spring break.  The early dismissal today gives our teachers time to work on their report cards.

Today our students participated in our quarter three PBIS Celebration which was a team dance party. Some teams went outside and others danced in their pod areas.  On behalf of Ms. Pazornik and our entire staff, we hope each of our FRES families has a wonderful spring break!  We will see you on 4/11.

Sincerely,
Scott Conroy, Principal

FRES Chick-fil-A Spirit Day Fundraiser Update
Thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone who helped make our Chick-fil-A Spirit Day such a success!  We raised $470.03 toward the 4th grade field trip!

From Mrs. Wise, One of our Tech Teachers
As you prepare for Spring Break, packing iPads for car trips, plane rides, or time inside if the weather isn't great, you might be looking for appropriate games, apps, sites, and videos for your children to access.  Common Sense Media has a site for parents to read up on current reviews of the latest releases, and recommendations by age level, to help you provide safe and entertaining media for your child(ren.)  Follow this link to the site, then click on the Parent Tips & FAQs tab in the green bar. From here, you can select your child's age level, topic, or platform to access reviews, tips, and information to help guide you in selecting appropriate online activities for your child. This is an excellent site to peruse information about helping your child navigate the digital world.

Maryland Comprehensive Assessment Program (MCAP) - Spring Assessment for 3rd, 4th & 5th Graders
The Maryland State Department of Education is conducting a spring student assessment as one of several strategies to identify how students are performing academically. The results will help educators better understand student needs.  These results never stand alone in assessing student growth, and will be used in combination with other assessments and class work to gauge overall student performance.

MCAP is the overarching term used for all state assessments. MSDE will administer assessments in the Spring for English Language Arts/Literacy & Mathematics. Here are the dates for FRES Students:

5th Grade MCAP Dates:

  • ELA - 4/11, 4/12, 4/13, and 4/14  (12:30 - 2:30)
  • Math - 5/1, 5/2, 5/3 and 5/5  (1:15 - 3:15)

4th Grade MCAP Dates:

  • ELA - 4/25, 4/26, 4/27, 4/28  (9:30 - 11:30)
  • Math - 5/12, 5/15, 5/16, 5/17  (9:30 -11:30)

3rd Grade Spring MCAP Dates

  • ELA- 4/17, 4/18, 4/19, and 4/24  (10:30 - 12:30)
  • Math- 5/8, 5/9, 5/10, 5/11  (10:30 - 12:30)

It is important that students arrive at school on time each testing day.  If possible please avoid scheduling vacations or appointments on testing days.  If a student misses a day of testing they will have an opportunity to make it up.

Please contact Ms. Pazornik (ivye_pazornik@hcpss.org ) with any questions about the MCAP assessment.  To learn more about Spring Assessments and MCAP please visit HCPSS Testing FAQ located on the HCPSS website.
