Spring Break is finally here! Our students and staff are definitely ready for the break and the beginning of nicer, warmer weather. I encourage you to take time as a family to play games or spend some time enjoying the outdoors over the break.

Did you know that many of our FRES students have artwork at the Columbia Mall Art Show? If you are at the mall, our board is on the upper level near Nordstrom and Macy’s. The show will continue through April 21st.

As we enter the fourth quarter of the school year, we ask that you take some time to set goals with your child and review expectations. This will ensure that they finish out the year strong and continue to demonstrate FRES behavior everyday. These goals can be for academic areas or for social and emotional areas. Our children offer great insight when sharing what they do well and how they can improve. I look forward to seeing them all flourish individually as we close out our 2018-2019 school year. Again, I wish you all a safe and healthy spring break and we will see you when we return on April 23, 2019.

Spring is blooming all around us and that means it is seasonal allergy time. Seasonal allergies can affect anyone and can affect you anytime. We hear "I have not been diagnosed with allergies" or "I have never had allergies before" frequently. Seasonal allergies are something to consider if cold like symptoms are not resolving.

Free Spring Break Meals Program
HCPSS is partnering with the Howard County Department of Community Resources and Services, the Howard County Library System and the Community Action Council of Howard County to provide nutrition for children in need, Monday, April 15-Thursday, April 18.

Mall Art Show
The HCPSS 47th Annual Spring Student Art Exhbition is being held at The Mall in Columbia, through 3:00 p.m. on April 21. The opening reception will be held on April 11, 6:00-7:00 p.m., lower level court near Nordstrom. The Forest Ridge exhibit is located on the upper level near Books-a-Million and the Macy's back entrance. Art work from all schools in Howard County will be exhibited. It's a great show! Some amazing artwork will be on display.
Doing some Spring cleaning? Donate your gently used or new sports equipment!
Forest Ridge is partnering with Leveling the Playing Field to run a collection drive through April 30th. Equipment may be dropped off in the FRES gym or cafeteria. Leveling the Playing Field accepts soccer, baseball, softball, volleyball, hockey, golf, basketball, lacrosse, field hockey, tennis, and recess type equipment.
LPF collects donated sports equipment and redistributes it to low-income kids throughout the Delaware, Maryland, and Virginia area. All donations benefit needy schools, after school programs, and athletic leagues looking to engage their students in the physical and mental benefits of youth sports participation. LPF relies on used/excess sports donations from local communities to engage underprivileged children, so clean out your garages and basements of your unused sporting equipment, and help LPF get more kids off the sidelines and into the game!

Give Your Unwanted T-shirts A New Lease on Life
Less Plastic Please's mission is to reduce the use of single-use plastic in Howard County. To that end they have an on-going project to create reusable bags from unwanted t-shirts and to distribute them to local grocery stores. A "Rags to Bags" collection box has been placed in the media center near the intermediate hallway so that we may supply LPP with the shirts they need to create reusable bags. This will be an on-going collection, so please check your closets and bureaus for unwanted t-shirts. They do not have to be in perfect condition. Your donations will help change our throw-away culture into a sustainable one. Thank you!
