Hello FRES Families!
It was so good to see a lot of you at back to school nights this week! I am excited about all the activities that are coming up in October. It’s going to be a fun and exciting month.
We kick off the month with our next PTA meeting on October 2nd in the Media Center at 7pm. Childcare will be provided. Come out and hear about what’s going on and the ways you can get involved or participate.
Calling ALL Dads, Uncles, Grandads or other male role models!!! Forest Ridge Elementary School and PTA are working together to implement a GREAT new program that encourages dads and other significant male role models to come be a part of making an impact on the lives of our children. Moms have historically been more visible in the schools, let’s make dads more visible too! Come to our kick-off celebration on Thursday, October 4 from 6:30-7:30. Bring the kids, eat dinner and learn more about this terrific program!
Our Believe Fundraiser is in full swing. FRES PTA is teaming up with Believe Kids to help raise funds that will benefit our school and help us sponsor your student’s favorite events throughout the year. The Believe Kids Magical Holidays Fall catalog features a wide variety of items including jewelry, kitchen accessories, magazines, snacks, holiday gift wrap/bags and much more. With your help in selling or purchasing 10 or more items, we can reach our fundraising goal. The fundraiser runs from 9/21 through 10/5. The parent letter and fundraising packet that came home last week provides additional details about participating and the student prizes. Our first Movie Night is on Friday, Oct. 12th at 7:00 p.m. We’ll be showing Hotel Transylvania 3. The monster family embark on a vacation on a luxury monster cruise ship so Drac can take a summer vacation from providing everyone else’s vacation at the hotel, and they indulge in all of the shipboard fun the cruise has to offer. This is a FREE event and no sign up is required!
Mark your calendars for the 6th annual FRES Halloween Dance Saturday, Oct. 13 from 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. This is a memorable event that our FRES students (and parents too) love and anticipate every year. Tickets will cost $3 and are available now until Monday, Oct. 8. This event is for FRES students and their parents only. All tickets must be ordered in advance. We are not able to accept walk-ins.
Do you enjoy dressing up in a Halloween costume? Put on your costume, and come join us. It’s encouraged! We need volunteers: a skeleton, coffin corpse, and other characters. Let’s all gather at Red Hot & Blue on Tuesday, the 23rd from 4:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. This is our first Spirit night at a restaurant this year. Join other FRES families for a night of local, delicious BBQ, a great salad or an onion loaf—just to name a few of the menu items. Let’s fill up RH&B, and be sure to mention you are with FRES!
Our final event of the month is skate night on Friday, Oct. 26th at Laurel Skate Center on Rt. 1 and Brewers Court. Skate from 7:00 p.m.- 10:00 p.m. for $9, which includes skates. Say you’re with FRES to get the special price. While this is not meant to be a fundraiser, part of the evening’s proceeds do go back to FRES PTA. Come on out with other FRES friends for an evening of exercise and FUN! All participants who use the FRES special price must sign a waiver at the door.

Students will earn a small incentive prize for any Box Tops turned in by Thursday, October 18, 2018. For every 5 Box Tops, your child's name will be placed in a drawing for one of six gift cards to Five Below. (One winner per grade.) Please send unexpired Box Tops in a baggie or envelope clearly labeled with your child’s name, grade, and teacher’s name (or the collection sheet from the PTA – www.frespta.org/resources/forms). Each is worth 10 cents for FRES, and they add up fast! Visit http://www.btfe.com/ to see products where you can find Box Tops.
FRES participates in Harris Teeter’s Together in Education program to help raise funds for our school. It’s easy and it’s FREE. Simply give the cashier our code, 7900, and your VIC card when you check out, and your card will be linked for the entire school year. That’s it! You only have to link your VIC card once each school year. Once your card is linked, FRES will receive percentage of your Harris Teeter brand (Harris Teeter, H.T. Traders, Harris Teeter Organics, HT Farmers Market, and purchases in the HT Pharmacy) purchases credited back to our account. This program does not interfere with your VIC savings or cost you any money!
