Items of Note:

• As the weather gets colder, there is the possibility that schools will be closed or open late because of inclement weather.  HCPSS sends out text messages to let parents know.  These messages usually go out between 5:00 and 5:30 a.m.  To receive text messages from FRES or HCPSS, you must opt in.  Please text "YES" to 67587 to receive text messages.
• The last Chick-fil-A Spirit Day this year will be on March 18.  Proceeds will help to defray the cost of 4th and 5th grade field trips.

Dear FRES Community,

It was wonderful to see so many of our parents and family members here this week for American Education Week.  We look forward to seeing you again next week at conferences.  

Our students in grades 3 & 5 will participate in the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) on December 6th, 9th & 10th.  This test is used as one data point for possible placement in GT mathematics for 4th or 5th grade students, or GT course placement in middle school.  Please let your child’s teacher know if he/she will be absent on any of those days and we will schedule a make-up session.  

We hope everyone enjoys a wonderful Thanksgiving and we will see you all back at school on 12/2.

PTA News...

Hello FRES families!

I hope families had a chance to observe their children in the classroom setting during American Education Week!  It’s so useful to be able witness how they learn what they learn and gain that perspective. 

Thanks to all the families who braved the cold and joined FRES PTA at Panda Express last week!  Panda Express will be donating $143.86 in proceeds to our PTA!

This Monday, the Emerson HOA presented awards to the winners of their Ralph Waldo Emerson poetry contest.  Second grader Ayaan Alam won in the elementary school category with a beautiful poem.  Not only did we win a $250 prize for himself, but FRES PTA will also receive $500 in his name!  FRES alum Hailey Walburger won on the middle school level!  Read their poems here.  We’re so proud of our soaring Eagles!

The PTA Student Directory will be available to PTA members again this year as a perk of membership.  Parents love this as a way to connect with other families to set up playdates and send birthday invites.  Paper copies will be distributed to current members within the next couple of weeks.  You can still receive a PTA Student Directory if you sign up for PTA membership.  If you haven’t signed up for membership yet, it’s not too late and it’s only $10 for an individual and $16 for a family (2 individuals)!  Simply print and fill out the membership form and send it in with cash or a check made out to “FRES PTA” or sign up online.

Staff Appreciation
The next staff appreciation event is a Conference Dinner for the teachers and staff on Monday, November 25 from 4-5pm, since they are at the school all day conferencing with parents.  The theme will be Comfort Food and Casseroles (good old fashioned Pot Luck/ Crockpot Dishes).  If you’d like to provide a dish or help out, check out the SignUp Genius!

Holiday Shoppe
Thank you to the MANY people who have already responded by signing up to help out with this year's Holiday Shoppe!  We do still need more volunteers to fill all the spots to help our little shoppers during their recess times.  Please check the SignUp Genius to see when you can help.  The shoppe will be open Tuesday, December 3 through Thursday, December 5 during all recess times.  If you have any questions contact Jen Renkevens at vp1@frespta.org.
